Does it need an internet connection?
No. Scanning, duplicate detection, and file operations run entirely offline on your device.
What file types are supported?
Any file type can be scanned — NestFiles compares file content to find exact duplicates regardless of format.
Can it damage my system files?
No. NestFiles blocks protected Windows and system locations and never overwrites existing files.
Does NestFiles delete my files permanently?
No. Duplicates go to a reversible quarantine, not straight to deletion. Nothing is permanently removed without your explicit confirmation, and supported operations can be restored afterward.
Can I undo an action after confirming it?
Yes, for supported operations. NestFiles keeps local recovery records so quarantine and organize actions can be restored from the Restore Center.
Is any of my data uploaded anywhere?
No. NestFiles has no cloud sync, no account, and no telemetry — everything happens locally on your PC.
Which Windows versions are supported?
NestFiles targets Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Do I need an account to use NestFiles?

Does NestFiles catch photos, songs, or videos that are similar but not identical?
Yes, as a separate review-only mode. NestFiles can flag visually similar photos, audio that matches even when trimmed or re-encoded, and videos with matching scenes — but these are always shown for manual review and never quarantined or deleted automatically. Only byte-for-byte exact matches go through the regular scan-and-quarantine workflow.
Can NestFiles find duplicates inside ZIP or RAR archives?
Yes. NestFiles can look inside ZIP, 7z, and RAR archives to find exact-match entries without extracting them to disk. This is a read-only inspection — it explains what's duplicated inside an archive but doesn't offer quarantine or delete actions on archive contents.
Is the quarantine actually reversible?
Yes. Quarantined files aren't deleted — they're moved to a local, manifest-backed holding area, and supported operations can be restored from the Restore Center afterward.
Can I scan external or USB drives?
Yes. You can point NestFiles at any folder you select, including external or USB drives — it only blocks protected Windows and system locations, not removable media.
Does the NestFiles app use any telemetry or analytics?
No. The NestFiles application itself has no telemetry, behavioral tracking, or third-party analytics. (This website uses standard web analytics to understand traffic — see our Privacy Policy — but the desktop application does not.)
Is NestFiles safe to use on an SSD?
Yes. NestFiles moves and organizes files using standard Windows file operations — it doesn't perform repeated overwrite passes, so it adds no unusual wear beyond normal file management.
How large a folder can NestFiles scan?
NestFiles is built and tested for folders up to about 20,000 files per scan. Larger folders may not be fully supported yet — this limit may be raised in a future update.
Is NestFiles open source?
No, NestFiles is closed source. We earn trust through the safety model itself — preview-first, reversible quarantine, and manifest-backed restore — rather than through open code. See our full security page.
Does NestFiles run automatically in the background?
No. NestFiles only scans when you start a scan yourself. It doesn't run continuous background monitoring or automatic cleanup.
What happens if NestFiles is closed while an operation is running?
NestFiles uses an operation lock and a local journal so an interrupted quarantine or organize action stays recoverable rather than half-done — you can check its state next time you open the app instead of guessing what happened.
